Just about finished the nacelles apart from the u/c doors. Bit of a marathon - like building four more fuselages
The access hatches were a bit tricky but I'd rather be able to get at the ESC's and wiring instead of building them in.
The retracts seem to fit ok but the wheel fouls the air pipe when retracted. I'm faced with lengthening the leg ( takes it out of scale ) or restricting the travel of the undercarriage.
Only other thing I can think of is an adaptor between the cylinder and hose with a tight bend. That would be fairly straight forward apart from knowing where to get hold of some 4mm push fit airline adaptors.
Any ideas ?

Hi Martin,
When I used to have a rea job, any airline fittings we needed we would get from Captivair in Norhfleet/Gravesend. They have a great range and 4mm is probably a standard fitting ( I'm sure that we used that size ).
Try there site for info http://www.captivair.co.uk

Hi Martin I have some push fit air line connectors (About 4m) If you want to try. I have also used some plastic fittings that push inside the tubing . They are a lot smaller and lighter than the external fittings. They are supplied with retract systems and I thint unitracts at gravesend may be able to supply them. Failing that is it possible to fit a nipple to the side/end of the cylinder ?Small brass nipple screwed in would be adequate .
Phil

Hi guys
since I last posted I had a chance meeting with an old friend who works for Hydraquip. He thinks he can get a M/F 4mm elbow in plastic similar to the fittings supplied with the Eurokit retract set.
If there no good I'll take up your ideas.
Thanks a lot Martin

| Here's the servo, rx and pneumatic control installation. The bomb bay seemed cavernous but it still turned into a bit of a squeeze probably because of the 4mm airlines used by Eurokit for there retracts. Attached Image (viewed 132 times):

I thought I'd have a go at knocking out some semi scale sprung landing gear.
They seem to work ok and are not so heavy as I thought they would be. Including wheels the pair weighs 130grm (that's 4.6 oz in old money) on the kitchen scales. At least there the right side of the c/g.
Presumably I should have the gear retacted when balancing the plane ??

The springs came from an assortment box from RS which I've had for donkeys years.
I was amazed that I had just what I needed - normally sods law dictates that you are one short!!

The oxygen mask and leather helmet would hide the terror on my face - anyway it would improve my looks

After getting soaked at Stickfast on saturday decided to do some more of the Lancaster.
I temporarily assembled all the bits to check the balance and get a rough idea where to supposit the battery (no rude suggestions thank you )
While it was in one piece I took some shots. Still a long way to go including reducing the diameter and balancing the props, working out how to fix the moulded spinners, fixing the battery, some detailing, covering and painting.
I've had a go at covering some parts with poly-c and tissue. It's fairly easy to use and gives a tough finish. No smell and the brushes clean under the tap.

Probably matt black bottom half and green/brown top half. Any internals visible will be pale green.
What's the best way to simulate panel lines?

| Hello Martin . Thats looking really good .You can add panel line s by applying fine line tape (masking tape is too thick and leaves a ragged edge )where you want the line and then spraying a coat of primer to the edge of the tape . Remove while paint is wet and it will leave a line that is visible through the colour coat . You can also score them into the primer using a ruler and a scribe or simply pencil them on when the colour coat has been applied but the pencil will need sealing with a claer coat of varnish which adds weight . Just about finished the paint job. Progress has been a bit slow lately due to an inconsiderate ticker but I still hope to complete in time for Bredgar
I've done a few panel lines and I found that a pizza cutter gave an indentation without the risk of tearing the covering - quite effective - wish I'd done more now
